Compensation for signing a type 2 free agent (with restrictions)

To sign a Type 2 free agent belonging to another team, you need to be in possession of the following options next draft, to include them as compensation to the team holding the rights to the player, as set out in the table below.

Non-exchange clause

A team that signs a Type 3 player at the free agent signing stage cannot trade him to another team for the entire first year of his contract, i.e. when the league moves into the post-season. This player cannot be included in transaction offers during the first season following the signing of his contract. However, it is possible to submit him to the ballot.

The no-trade clause ends when the league moves into the post-season, i.e. after the end of the playoffs.

Option year (player or team, Type 2 or 3)

Player option

At the end of his contract, the player's agent has the power to decide whether he activates his option year, thus extending his stay with the team for another season at the same salary, or whether he tests the free agent market again, without compensation. An offer that includes an option year for the player is viewed favorably by the agent, lowering the amount to be paid for his services.

Team option

Conversely, it is up to the team to choose whether to activate the option year, at any time during the final season of the contract. If this option is chosen, the player stays on for one more season at the previous year's salary conditions. However, an offer with an option year in favor of the team is perceived less favorably by the player's agent, which increases the amount to be paid for his services.

List of free agents after the signing stage

A player without a contract remains available on a free agent list. Any team at any time during the season can sign free agents. Salary demands are reduced for all players still without a contract after the free agent signing stage.

Assignment to the pro club after signing

When a free agent is signed, he is always placed with the pro club undressed, regardless of when he was signed.

Contract buyback

A player's contract can be bought out at any time, except during the playoffs*.

• If regulation R7 is activated, it is impossible to buy out a player's contract signed during the free agent signing stage, for the entire season following the signing.

Cost of surrendering a contract

The cost of buying out a contract is 50% of the salary he would have earned by the end of the year PLUS 50% of the salary he would have earned for all the other years remaining on his contract, including the player option year if there is one on the contract.

A player whose contract is bought out automatically becomes a free agent.

Restrictions on signing a bought-out player

Two simulations are required after a contract buyout before the player can be signed by another team.

A player who has been bought out cannot be re-signed by the team that bought him out during the same season.

Right to a player who did not play in the previous season

In Real Evolution mode, a player who has not played the minimum number of matches required in reality will not be available for the following season in the game. There are many reasons for this, such as injury, retirement, departure for another league, etc.

The team holding the player's rights retains those rights even in this situation. With each new season, the player's contract is reduced by one year, as is the case for other players in the league. If the player returns, he remains available to the team holding his rights. If his contract has expired, the team then has the option of signing him as it would any of the team's free agents.
