The role of league commissioner is essential to ensure the smooth functioning and cohesion of a WebSim Hockey league. As the official representative of the league to the site administrators and the person responsible for its operations, the commissioner must be both a competent leader and an ambassador for their league.
Listening to GMs #
An effective commissioner must first and foremost listen to their general managers (GMs) and foster a democratic environment where decisions take into account the opinions and needs of all league members. By making fair and balanced decisions, the commissioner helps strengthen trust and cooperation among GMs, allowing the league to grow and thrive.
Availability and Handling Emergencies #
The commissioner must be able to manage and organize the various stages of the league, such as creating divisions and conferences, setting the schedule for player drafts, and administering the league’s rules. They must also be able to handle emergencies, such as replacing inactive GMs or making financial and investment adjustments for teams.
Ensuring Smooth League Operations #
The commissioner must also ensure that all league activities run smoothly and be ready to step in when issues or conflicts arise between members. This may involve resolving special cases, such as adjusting team investment amounts, transferring players between teams, or signing free agents for struggling teams.
Rewards for the League Commissioner #
In recognition of the importance of the commissioner’s role and its responsibilities, a reward in the form of pucks is granted to league commissioners for each completed season. This reward is intended to encourage commissioners to continue investing time and effort in managing and developing their leagues.
Reward Amount
The reward amount for league commissioners is set at 35 pucks for every 82 games completed as commissioner of a league, which represents more than half the cost of a season renewal. This amount is automatically granted at the end of each season, provided the commissioner has successfully fulfilled their obligations to the league and its members.
Thirty-five pucks are added after 82 games combined across all leagues where a GM serves as commissioner.
Use of Pucks and Eligibility
The pucks received as rewards can be used to pay league entry fees for any league in which the GM participates.
To be eligible for the 35-puck reward, the commissioner must have successfully fulfilled their responsibilities throughout the season, maintaining a positive and constructive atmosphere in the league, resolving issues and conflicts peacefully when necessary, and ensuring that all league activities are carried out in accordance with the rules and expectations of the WebSim Hockey administrators.
