Quality indicators are used to evaluate a player on an overall basis and are generated through formulas calculated from the player’s attributes.
Indicators are not used directly in the game simulation.
PO and OV - Potential and Overall #
The potential is a prediction of the evolution of a player’s average rating at age 30, calculated from their current average and the expected future increases based on their current age. The average is a rounded overall mean of all the player’s attributes.
In both cases, these are calculated indicators rather than attributes themselves used by the simulator. It is important to understand the value of each attribute when evaluating player quality.
To calculate a player's potential, you must account for an increase of +2 per year from age 18 to 24, and +1 per year from age 25 to 29, meaning:
| Age | PO (OV + Adjustment) |
|---|---|
| 18 | +19 |
| 19 | +17 |
| 20 | +15 |
| 21 | +13 |
| 22 | +11 |
| 23 | +9 |
| 24 | +7 |
| 25 | +5 |
| 26 | +4 |
| 27 | +3 |
| 28 | +2 |
| 29 | +1 |
Potential in Real Evolution Leagues #
For leagues using real evolution, potential is calculated the same way, but it is only an informational value since it is not intended to predict the actual potential of NHL players.
OFF – Offense Indicator #
The OFF (offense) indicator is a calculation that reflects the relative importance of each attribute in the success of offensive plays during game simulation.
Calculation of the OFF (offense) indicator
PA (25%) + SHO (25%) + SP (12.5%) + FI (12.5%) + HS (10%) + EX (15%)
DEF - Defense Indicator #
The DEF (defense) indicator is a calculation that reflects the relative importance of each attribute in the success of defensive plays during game simulation.
Calculation of the DEF (defense) indicator
DEF (25%) + ST (10%) + IT (15%) + SP (15%) + FI (10%) + HS (10%) + EXP (15%)
GOA - Goalie Indicator #
The GAR (goaltending) indicator is a calculation that reflects the relative importance of each attribute in the success of the Stop a Shot action during game simulation.
Calculation of the GOA (goaltending) indicator
SHO (35%) + SP (15%) + EX (15%) + HS (10%) + FI (10%) + ST (5%) + IT (5%) + 5
ST – Strength #
The fighting attribute, rated from 1 to 5, determines how likely a player is to engage in a fight, directly influencing the team's momentum.
